Mary E. Schellhammer, a sole practitioner in Somerset, is serving a three-year term on the Pennsylvania Bar Association Board of Governors.
One of 12 zone governors who serve on the PBA Board, Schellhammer represents Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon, Indiana and Somerset County lawyers. Schellhammer also served as a zone governor from 2007 to 2010.
Involved in both state and county bar association activities, Schellhammer has been a voting member of the PBA House of Delegates for more than 20 years. Schellhammer is vice chair of the PBA Solo and Small Firm Section. She recently was part of a team from the section and from Widener University Commonwealth Law School to develop a program that teaches law students how to own and operate a small law firm.
She is a past chair of the PBA Criminal Justice Section and is a past chair and serves on the council of the PBA Family Law Section. In addition, she is a member of the PBA Elder Law Section and the House of Delegates Draft Committee.
Since 2001, Schellhammer has served as secretary/treasurer of the Somerset County Bar Association. She also is a member of the Cambria County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Council of Mediators.
Schellhammer is active in her community, serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Somerset County and as a frequent volunteer for Somerset County Historical Society events, including the Mountain Craft Days.
Schellhammer received her Bachelor of Arts from Duquesne University and her Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. She also earned a master’s in education degree from Duquesne.
