Jennifer S. Coatsworth, a partner at Margolis Edelstein, Philadelphia, is serving a three-year term as a zone governor on the Pennsylvania Bar Association Board of Governors.
One of 12 zone governors, Coatsworth represents Philadelphia lawyers.
Coatsworth is the chair of the PBA Civil Litigation Section and co-vice chair of the PBA Commission on Women in the Profession (WIP) Executive Council. She previously served as the WIP’s treasurer. Coatsworth is a member of the PBA Civil and Equal Rights Committee, Judicial Evaluation Commission, Member Events and Engagement Task Force, Minority Bar Committee, Planning Committee and Quality of Life/Balance Committee. She has been a voting member of the PBA House of Delegates, the association’s policymaking body, since 2013.
She also is active in the Philadelphia Bar Association, where she currently serves as secretary on its Board of Governors. She previously served as assistant secretary and parliamentarian for the Board of Governors and she was the secretary and vice chair of the association’s Young Lawyers Division.
Additionally, Coatsworth has served as the chancellor of the Louis D. Brandeis Law Society. She is a member of the Executive Council of the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel and chairs the Judicial Relations subcommittee.
Coatsworth has practiced in the Philadelphia office of Margolis Edelstein for 15 years. She focuses on motor vehicle, dealer fraud and lemon law cases from both the plaintiff and defense perspectives, and on the defense of professionals, including real estate agents, home inspectors, accountants and physicians. She also frequently defends fraternal organizations against various claims for liability.
Coatsworth graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland Honors Program and earned her J.D. from the Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law. She is the president of the Philadelphia chapter of the University of Maryland Alumni Association and Athletic Scholarship Fund.
